I love the flower girl

Its been a rainy Monday - how I wish I could have spent it lying in the warm grass with flowers and sun-rays and not soaking wet and cold on the train.

This song seemed most appropriate for my imaginings of where I'd rather be

Time for another daydream....

  1. Hi, dear Catherine! This is an excellent idea for a post, simple yet effective, and I have used the technique on my own blog several times. The reader clicks to start a music track then scrolls down the page and gazes at a series of pictures. I call it a "poor man's music video" and it really works. The music enhances the pictures and you find that you've created a piece of art.

How well I remember this hit by The Cowsills. I was just starting my four years of college at Penn State in the fall of 1967 when this family friendly, feel good, sunshine pop single vaulted to #2 and spent a substantial 16 weeks riding the Billboard chart. As you can well imagine, the song was on the minds and lips of many college kids who had evolved into flower children over the 1967 Summer of Love. I'll say it again - I wish you could have been there to smell the incense and peppermints and experience all the heady excitement of that magical time.

If you're daydreaming about lying in the warm grass, there are a couple of other famous recordings that come to mind.

    "Daydream" by the Lovin' Spoonful:

And even if time ain't really on my side,
It's one of those days for taking a walk outside.
I'm blowing the day to take a walk in the sun,
And fall on my face in somebody's new mowed lawn.

...and "Spill The Wine" by Eric Burdon and War:

I was once out strolling one very hot summer's day
When I thought I'd lay myself down to rest
in a big field of tall grass
I lay there in the sun and felt it caressing my face

Here's hoping your chilly, rainy weather dries up and blows away and that you enjoy a fine week ahead, dear friend. Good night, Cat!

    1. Yes that the idea! - i hope people actually do it though. Sometimes i think im being lazy but its just a bit of fun really. Poor mans music video is a good descriptor for it

Thanks for songs- Daydream is another favourite of mine but Spill the wine is a new one. Its always good to hear your stories from the 60s! It really helps cement my ideas of the time and make me like it even more!

  2. What a fabulous array of images! I've seen First Aid Kit a couple of times but sadly Johanna never wore that stupendous cape! Loving so many of the prints, the voluminous sleeves and seeing Patti Boyd in India (I can almost guarantee I won't be looking that pristine! x

    1. ah you had long hair? i had very short hair once which i miss a lot. but cuttong hair is more dramatic then growing i think. though quicker!

    2. Yeah my hair used to be really long about 6 or so years ago. I've had family members not recognise me when I've turned up to events, they're expecting a long haired brunette and instead a ginger girl with a bob turns up!
