Sew! A needle pulling thread!

Why hello!

Thank you for all your lovely comments on my two dresses, you're all so very kind! I'm hoping I'll eventually be able to use my sewing skills in a non-selfish way one day, perhaps by making things to sell, teaching or sewing for others. But we will have to see what the future holds!

For now, like this illustration below, I am hand quilting a blanket for a gift. I know there are a lot of quilting devotees out there and I'm probably not doing it the traditional way, but sometimes its nice to take a break and try something else. I don't want to ruin the surprise as I know the receiver reads my blog, so I'll save photos for later.

What kind of projects, creative or otherwise, are you working on at the moment?

  1. You are a young woman with many skills and talents, dear Catherine. I am eager to see the finished quilt and I'm sure your friend will be surprised and delighted. I can only speak for Mrs. Shady who loves to crochet. She spends hours crocheting whilst watching television and has produced many lovely items to give as gifts including baby clothing, blankets, mittens, scarves and sweaters. As a matter of fact, she finished a sweater just last evening and took it with her this morning to give to a co-worker.

I see by the old clock on the wall that it's getting late in your part of the world, dear Cat, so I will bid you a good night!

  3. I can't wait to see the quilt!

Like Vix I've got so many possible sewing projects at the moment that I don't quite know where to start. I'm currently working on a heavy linen dress and I'm thinking maybe a playsuit or shorts next. Knowing me I'll probably just end up making another dress. I've got my sister and boyfriend asking me to make stuff for them as well - if only I could just sew full time instead of working in an office!

  4. I'm making a quilt at the moment too! I'm not traditional about it either. It's a very basic square patch quilt to use up my fabric scraps. I'm also sewing a vintage blouse for me and a hat for my sister in law who is a nurse.

    1. Oh i like those ones! they seem so nice and homely. My aunt who is a serious quilter was slightly concerned with my slapdash quilting when i made my first one!
A hat! I would like to see that! hehe

  5. I'd love to see how the quilt turns out! The only creative thing I've been focusing on right now is my music but as I've only started over from nothing again it's going a bit slow. Maybe at some point I might post on my blog! xxx
