Burdastyles 50 Best Bloggers for Sewing Enthusiasts nomination!

Hey hey! Its finally Spring!

Well for me and everyone else below the equator... I hope your looking forward to Autumn up there northern hemisphere readers!

The weather in Sydney has actually been pretty rainy and windy, but something exciting has come my way to brighten things up! A nomination for Burdastyles 50 Best Bloggers for Sewing Enthusiasts!

Prizes include patterns, guest blogging spots and more!

You can view the full list of nominees and vote here

I didn't put myself forward, so who ever did - thank you! And a big virtual hug for you! It's been a really poo-y year so this really has made everything worthwhile!

Check them out if you haven't before. All are run by very lovely and talented people who make the most gorgeous things. You can vote for up to 20 bloggers, so you can spread the love to as many as you like

The nomination comes at a funny time. Burdastyle had really been letting me down the last few years especially as a long term member who remembers when it was still kind of small and the community was tight, there was a contact in Australia and all the patterns were free! It changed with the GFC and was taken under the wings of their parent company Burda Moden. It felt a little "corporate" at that point to me. But it seems as though they're picking up their game and fighting off all the spam and embracing the community again. This weekend gone I had spent a good amount of time on the website looking at member projects and patterns and thinking that they're not all that bad really any more

So snaps for you Burdastyle!

I also thought I'd share with you another facet of organising my sewing stuff

Considering my fabric stash is slowly becoming ridiculous, I decided to make up a little book of fabric swatches to document what I have, how much I have, what it's made from and where I bought it or paid for it

I also jot down possible patterns to use with the fabric, as I'll often have a great idea and then forget all about it!

The book is just an A5 folder with plastic sleeves and all I do is stick the fabric swatch to some printer paper and slide it in! I used to write the fabric details on a post-it and pin it to the fabric, but they would often fall off or tear. Plus I can take this book with me on shopping trips as its not that big.

I also got all primary school on myself and decorated it with stickers like a boss. Well not a boss. I just bought a new sticker book and wanted to use them... I'll make a nice cover another day.

Feel free to do the same! It's a fun rainy afternoon sort of project and when you know what fabric you have, you'll be more likely to use it instead of buying more!
Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to submit a vote for me!

  2. Ahhh, your swatch book is a great idea! I have printed out sheets stuffed in a drawer, which is unwieldy and untidy. This is a much better way to organize them!

  6. Hey, congrats on your blog listing! I can't believe mine was there as well!! So honoured! Do you have any idea how they select the short-listed blogs. I love your swatch book. I have a set of swatch tags, they are called Swatch Buddies and are little plastic tags that you attach fabric to the front and write on the back, them loop them all together. Convenient for taking a few swatches shopping, for sure, but your way is better for inventory, definitely.

Yes! I remember when burdastyle was all free patterns. The team designed hip and free patterns. I already buy the magazines (so I don't need to go there to pattern shop) so I don't visit the site so much anymore but its so great they they are celebrating sewing bloggers!

  14. Congratulations on making the short list. Your blog is very deserving of the accolades. Your swatch book is an excellent idea, however I would be unlikely to do such a useful project because then I would have to face the reality of the stash. And reality sucks!

    1. Oh thank you so much! xo oh yeas this definitely makes you face those sorts of mountains, but if you were going for a fabric stash project, it would be a great incentive to remind you how much you had as well!
